Solana Beach Pediatric Dentist

Pediatric Dentist in Solana Beach

When you bring your child in for a visit with their Solana Beach pediatric dentist, you are setting them out on a path towards a lifetime of healthy teeth. At Great Smiles Pediatric Dentistry we provide dental care to infants, children and adolescents, addressing the unique oral health requirements at each stage of development. Our goal in treating your child is to monitor their dental growth and development, prevent cavities, and guide them in establishing a good oral hygiene regimen that will help them to maintain their healthy smile for a lifetime.

As a parent, it is important to bring your child for routine dental care starting at a young age. In this way your child will become more comfortable in seeing the dentist, and as time progresses will develop an understanding of the importance of maintaining their own dental health. At your Solana Beach pediatric dentist we’ll do our utmost to protect your child’s teeth against dental decay. Each time that your child comes in for their check up visit their oral health will be thoroughly evaluated. Our dentist will examine each tooth for cavities, using diagnostic films as needed to find any decay that is not apparent on visual inspection. Films will also show a child’s developing teeth and their positions in the jaws. It is important to note if this is proceeding normally or if there are any issues that need to be considered or addressed

Your child will also receive a professional dental cleaning at their routine periodic visits to remove dental plaque or any particles that their toothbrush could not reach or missed. Plaque is a sticky, clear film that develops in the mouth and harbors the harmful bacteria that cause cavities. The dentist will make sure that you and your child receive instructions in the best techniques for brushing and flossing, and will provide guidance in making the right nutritional choices in order to prevent tooth decay. For further prevention against tooth decay, your child’s dentist may recommend the application of dental sealants and periodic fluoride treatment. Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings painted onto the backs of your child’s permanent molars to shield the vulnerable grooves and crevices from developing cavities. Fluoride treatments are important because they help to strengthen the enamel in developing teeth.

As your child grows we’ll carefully follow their dental health and development along with their facial growth and development. We want to make sure that their teeth are aligned and that the jaws are in the proper relationship. Our orthodontist will provide care as necessary to correct any issues
